1. St Andrews Beaches

St Andrews is a picturesque town located on the east coast of Fife and has some lovely beaches. West Sands Beach is the largest and most well-known beach, just a 15-minute walk from the town centre. This is where the famous beach running scene was filmed for the movie Chariots of Fire. There’s also East Sands Beach and Castle Sands near the town centre. All are sandy and great for playing with the kids.

2. St Andrews Museum

Within the town’s Kilnburn Park, St Andrews Museum is housed in an old Victorian mansion building. A great place to visit for all the family. The museum explores the history of St Andrews. There are children’s activities, a cafe and a rolling programme of temporary exhibitions. What’s more, entry is free. (Please note, the museum is closed until spring 2023).

3. St Andrews Aquarium

St Andrews Aquarium is a central attraction, which overlooks St Andrews Bay. Meet over 120 species at this Scottish sealife centre. There are fish, rays, sharks, seals and penguins. In addition to some land creatures such as meerkats, marmosets and arachnids. Here, you’ll learn about these fascinating animals, their habitats and the impact of climate change. There’s also a cafe and gift shop. Admission charges apply.

4. Craigtoun Country Park

Just 2 miles south of St Andrews town centre, Craigtoun Country Park is a large family-friendly park. It’s open all year round with an adventure play area, cafe, enchanted woodland walks and gardens to explore. There are also various seasonal attractions that run on school holidays and weekends from around April to October. These include tractor rides, a miniature railway, boating lake and crazy golf. Admission to the park is free but there are charges for seasonal attractions.

5. Cambo Gardens

A little further out of town, on the east coast by Kingsbarns, Cambo Gardens has a stunning walled garden, with woodlands, a cafe and nature play activities and adventures. Children can explore the Lost Elf Village and follow a special walking trail. There is a charge to enter the gardens, but the play area and woodland walks are free.
