Golf courses and attractions in St Andrews

St Andrews is the home of golf. The Old Course is considered the oldest golf course in the world. Early versions of golf were played here from the 1400s. Today, it is a world-renowned course. St Andrews has hosted The Open Championship 30 times since 1873, and golfers come from all over the world to play here. There are now many golf courses and attractions to enjoy in St Andrews. So let’s take a look…

The Old Course

This is where it all began, around 600 years ago. Due to the iconic status of the Old Course, getting a tee time is competitive! A handicap of 36 is required and there are a few different ways to apply. You might be able to pre-book a tee time in advance. There is also a ballot for groups of 2 to 4, drawn 48 hours before play. Single golfers can enquire on the day of play and may be joined with a 2 or 3-ball group.

Even if you don’t get to play on the Old Course, it is worth a visit just to see this historic place. The famous Swilcan Bridge at the 18th hole is a popular photo spot for tourists!
